Animal Cell Organelle - Science Project

This is one cell I wouldn't mind dissecting! My daughter, Erin, made this for her science project. They were charged with creating a model of a cell organelle. So why not make it out of cake?!

Each individual piece of the cell came out and was viewable at 360 degrees.

Note... no cell model would be complete without its' "cell phone..."

Wedding Rehearsal Dinner

This cake was made for the rehearsal dinner at a friend's wedding. They finished the top two tiers at the rehearsal dinner, and wanted to serve the bottom tier at the reception, so I took it home and pulled the fondant off and recovered it. It didn't turn out too bad....

2010 State Fair - Robin

This smaller version of the Cheeseburger in Paradise cake took first place at the state fair. I made it exactly the same way as I made the larger version... just smaller:)

2010 State Fair - Erin wins 3rd place in the state!

Erin's cake won 3rd place in the youth division at the 2010 Tennessee State Fair!

The chocolate fudge cake was covered with vanilla fondant and then surrounded by fondant globes. Erin decorated it using food color markers.

T-Rex

This dinosaur was requested by the green-tongued Cole in the picture above. The base is cake, as is the top of the body and head. The belly and chin areas are formed from carved styrofoam. The legs and the tail were fashioned from Rice Krispie treats (homemade).

The volcano was formed from cake and covered with modeling chocolate. The interior was a PVC pipe which held dry ice.

This is the internal structure I built to support the dinosaur.

Cheeseburger in Paradise

This is a 3-tiered cake. The "buns" are vanilla, and the "hamburger patty" is chocolate. Ketchup and mustard are tinted vanilla butter cream icing. Tomatoes, pickles, cheese, and lettuce are tinted fondant. (As are the sesame seeds and confetti.)

The backdrop was painted by Erin Oquindo, my daughter and art director.

This cake was created for an end-of-the-year pool party with a "Cheeseburger in Paradise" theme.

Sweet 16

Sweet 16 cake - One beach tier, one for dancing, and the top tier replicated the hand-painted flowers on her bedroom wall. It was topped with her favorite book - "Little Women" being held up by the number "16"

They Say It's your Birthday!
For a TOTAL Beatles freak... We did a cake that had a wood-grain fondant covering to resemble his desk, and then added a couple of Beatles album covers, complete with vinyl, and sheet music to the Beatles song "Birthday."

My art director, and daughter, Erin, did the artwork on the album covers.
